Whenever I’m looking for a simple yet satisfying snack, I turn to this easy dill dip. Serve this dip alongside other snacks such as homemade Chex mix and lemon pepper wings, then watch the rave reviews come in!

Veggies are great on their own, but they’re even better when paired with a creamy dip. This dill dip can be whipped up in no time with items that you probably already have in your kitchen.

This recipe is made with sour cream, mayonnaise, dried dill, dried parsley, seasoned salt and dried minced onion.

How do you make dill dip?

Start by placing all of the ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Stir to combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, herbs and spices. Serve the dip immediately, or transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for later use.

Tips for the perfect dip

  • I use dried herbs because I always have them in the pantry, but fresh herbs will also work well. If you use fresh herbs, I still recommend going with the minced dried onion, as fresh onion may have too strong of a flavor.
  • Looking to save a few calories? You can easily substitute low fat sour cream and mayonnaise instead of the full fat variety.
  • Check the expiration date on your bottles of herbs before you make this dip! While dried herbs last for a very long time, they do eventually lose potency. I always go through my spice cabinet once a year to toss out bottles of herbs that are expired and no longer fresh tasting.
  • Serve your dip with potato chips, pita chips, baguette slices, pretzels or fresh vegetables.

What is the conversion of dried herbs to fresh?

This recipe is written for dried herbs, but if you prefer to use fresh, you’ll want to use three times the amount of the dried herbs called for. For example, if the recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of dried parsley, use 3 tablespoons of fresh parsley. Fresh herbs are not as potent as dried herbs which is why you’ll need to use more of them to get the same flavor.

What is dill dip made of?

Dill dip is made with a creamy base of sour cream and mayonnaise, along with plenty of dried herbs, including a generous amount of dried dill.

How long does dill dip last in the fridge?

Dill dip will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Store it in an airtight container for best results.

Can you freeze dill dip?

I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as it may separate when thawed.

Flavor Variations

While this dip is fabulous as-is, you can add other ingredients to customize the flavors to your tastes.

  • Cheese: Feel free to stir in 1/2 cup of grated cheese such as sharp white cheddar, parmesan or swiss.
  • Add-Ins: Amp up the flavor by adding garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, fresh chives, hot sauce, chopped olives, sun dried tomatoes or even finely grated carrots.
  • Toppings: Top off your dip with cooked crumbled bacon, toasted pine nuts, a drizzle of good olive oil, smoked paprika or diced fresh tomato.

I like to garnish my dill dip with a sprinkling of either fresh or dried dill, whatever you have on hand works just fine. Whenever I bring this recipe to parties, it’s devoured immediately!
