If you’ve ever found yourself thinking “I’d live there,” while watching scenes set in the “Creel House” of Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things, now is your chance to make that a reality. That is, of course, if you’re in the market for a beautifully restored Victorian-style estate, originally built in 1882 by Col. Hamilton Yancey, complete with all the feels from everyone’s favorite supernatural horror series.
Located in the East Rome Historic District of Georgia, the 5,000-square-foot residence has boasted beautiful Victorian architecture in the Second Empire style with its signature mansard roof for more than 140 years, welcoming those passing by into Downtown Rome. Upon walking up the front steps of the $1.5 million home, the inlaid wood floor of the outdoor foyer leads you to the front entrance of the residence. Once inside, you will immediately recognize features which were exclusively shown during the series’ fourth season. Inclusive of everything from the formal dining room to the adjoining parlor and large living room, anyone looking to host meetings of the Hellfire Club would be ecstatic to be able to do so here.
Although the home has been renovated and reworked for modern living, many of the original details still remain. Intricate handcrafted built-in bookshelves, cabinetry, large and layered moldings, and a custom buffet can all be expected if this becomes yours. That’s not all, though. Among the most notable original features are an antique wall safe and a cast iron urinal. Yes, you read that right. When have you ever seen one of those?
Included in the renovations, however, is the massive and stunning kitchen, featuring brand-new appliances, custom cabinetry, a giant 15-foot black marble island, and a large walk-in kitchen pantry. An additional butler’s pantry connects the kitchen to the dining room and includes a wet bar and ice maker.
Since its renovations — which included an all-new roof, plumbing, and electrical — the main house layout now includes 5-6 grand bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, with a sixth hidden in the mix. The next caretaker of the home would have plenty of options to establish an owner’s suite because of the flexible layout of the estate, with either the first or second floor being viable options. The attic can still be left free as the unfurnished third floor with its own private staircase.
While the main home is enough to get you to sign on the dotted line, there’s actually a bit more to appreciate about this property. Nestled behind the main house, the guest house features gothic-style architecture and offers a living room, 2-3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a single bathroom. Although the guest house could now make for the perfect in-law suite or Airbnb rental, at one time the entire estate was converted into a bed and breakfast that successfully operated for many years.
The entire residence is surrounded by a 1-acre lot featuring detailed landscaping and a ton of extra room for personalization for the next owner. Of course, though, you’ll want to be careful as to which activities you plan because the Upside Down is lurking nearby and Vecna just might be ready to make that grandfather clock chime again. In any case, the funeral home located nearby should ease your worries. I’m not sure about you, but if I had an extra $1.5 million to shovel out for this home, I would have been packing my bags weeks ago.
