The popular ice cream brand (with locations in Oregon, California, and Florida) launched this new line last year, but this year two new flavors have been invited to the feast: Mom’s Mango Pie and Roasted Peach & Sage Cornbread Stuffing. And as Kitchn’s unofficial-yet-official ice cream taste tester, I knew I had to give these (with the exception of the Caramelized Turkey & Cranberry Sauce because I don’t eat meat) a try!
This was so good! I normally don’t like fruit in general, but this was so light and refreshing. This flavor (which replaced last year’s Candied Walnut Cheesecake) is meant to highlight “the diversity of Thanksgiving traditions with the help of musician Hrishikesh Hirway, and his mom.” (Hi, loved the West Wing Weekly podcast.) Mango purée blended with tangy cream cheese and fluffy whipped cream creates a silky pie filling, and it’s studded with crumbles of salty graham cracker crust. I would definitely recommend adding this to your Thanksgiving lineup.
What a perfect fall flavor! Outside of the Dunkin’ pumpkin muffins, I don’t willingly consume many pumpkin-flavored fall foods, but I would make an exception for this one. There’s a good balance between pumpkin and gingersnap, and it’s perfectly spiced. I had this for breakfast and I have NO regrets. (Sorry, mom.) And it’s vegan.
Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream
I’ve tried a good share of savory ice cream flavors (truffle ice cream was … interesting), so I was wondering how this one would go for me. In a shocking turn of events, it ended up being one of my favorites. It’s sweet, salty, and creamy goodness.
Roasted Peach & Sage Cornbread Stuffing
My immediate reaction to eating the Roasted Peach & Sage Cornbread Stuffing flavor (which replaced last year’s Sweet Potato Pie with Double Baked Almond Streusel) was “mmmmmm.” It toes the line between spiced, savory, and sweet from the peach. The taste from the tart peach jam immediately hits you, as it flows in literal rivers throughout the pint, but it’s also got a mellow sage flavor for a little extra kick.
Almost any meal is made better with ice cream at the end, but I think it’s a particularly great, refreshing way to end a heavy, hearty lineup — like Thanksgiving. And the new Salt & Straw line is just that. You can get this year’s five-course Friendsgiving Series for $85, but only for a limited time.
