A Multi-State Recall for Ice Cream Has Been Issued — Here's Why

I scream, you scream, we all scream about another ice cream recall. This time, Weis Markets — the Mid-Atlantic food retailer — has notified customers of a recall for one of its ice cream products.

According to the recall announcement, the company has recalled 108 containers of Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream (48-ounce) because the product may contain soy and coconut allergens. The specified containers may have been distributed in 197 Weis Markets stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and West Virginia.

The company decided to recall the product after a temporary breakdown in the production and packaging process led to products containing soy and coconut being distributed in packaging that did not call out these ingredients. For those wondering if they have a recalled product, the containers in question will display Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream, but the lid will read Weis Quality Caramel Caribou Ice Cream.

Thankfully, there have been no illnesses reported to date, but customers who have purchased this product are encouraged to throw it out or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you need more information, you can visit the FDA recall page or contact Weis Customer Service at 1-866-999-9347.
