Whenever I try to throw together an easy dinner without following a recipe, I typically turn to my go-to seasonings: salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder. It’s a delicious spice combo, but one that can get pretty boring — and quickly. During the summer, however, I taste tested a few seasonings from Savory Spice, a Colorado-based spice store with a variety of flavors. One in particular has become my new go-to ingredient to elevate any chicken dish I make for a quick, no-fuss dinner: Capitol Hill Seasoning.
Capitol Hill Seasoning features a blend of shallots, dill, parsley, and chives for an onion-y flavor that tastes amazing on chicken and seafood — no wonder it’s one of Savory Spice’s most popular items. In fact, I reach for it almost every time I cook chicken now. I’m a huge fan of shallots and chives, and love that each bite is onion-forward without being overpowering. The result is light, fresh, and perfect for pairing with pasta salad or fresh produce like green beans or corn on the cob.
I especially love that this blend has little bits and pieces of each ingredient to deliver maximum flavor and texture, giving dishes an added crisp. Suddenly, scrambled eggs become much more exciting — which totally makes sense when you think about it! As someone who always adds sautéed onions to eggs, I plan on using Capitol Hill Seasoning the next time I make a big batch of eggs. Many customers say they also have this blend on hand for fish, shrimp, rice, and vegetables, and Savory Spice recommends using it with baked potatoes and salads too, so it’s not a stretch to imagine it being a delicious shortcut for your next potato salad. Or, use it to whip up a quick sour cream and onion dip — seriously, you can use this versatile spice however you’d like.
