5 Groceries Our Editor-in-Chief Is Buying During Harvest Month

It’s as reliable as the air starting to crisp and the leaves beginning to turn: Once fall arrives, we crave cozy dishes, warm spices, and all things autumnal. “Pumpkin gets all the glory this time of year, but there are lots of fall flavors to love,” says Kitchn Editor-in-Chief Faith Durand. “We wait all year to enjoy the bounty of autumn, and it’s finally time!”

To make the most of the season’s best ingredients — while keeping dinner prep quick and easy — Faith heads to Target. Their Good & Gather grocery line puts a creative twist on classic fall flavors, using fresh, high-quality ingredients you can feel good about. We asked her to share the items she’s most excited to buy this month.

1. Butternut Squash Ravioli

“We served butternut squash pasta at our wedding,” Faith says. “That’s how much we love this classic fall flavor combo!” This autumnal twist on the cheesy classic is packed with rich butternut squash. With browned butter and a dusting of parmesan, it’s a weeknight winner.

And the award for Most Creative Use of Hummus goes to … Faith. “I like to add a swipe of this flavorful hummus to the bottom of grain bowls,” she says. “It also doubles as an easy, creamy dressing.” The smoky, oven-roasted flavor is pure fall, too.

3. Old Fashioned Apple Cider

“Is it just me, or does apple cider taste even better in September?” Faith asks. “In our house, we both drink it and bake with it.” You can simmer this one with your favorite warming spices, glaze chicken thighs with it, or try your hand at apple cider doughnuts.

4. Maple Bourbon Mini Sweet Potatoes Steamer Tray

Warm, filling, and just the right amount of sweet, this is about to be your new favorite way to eat sweet potatoes. “I love how quickly this side dish comes together,” Faith says. “It tastes like it was made from scratch, but I didn’t even have to turn the oven on.”

“Hot cocoa is my kids’ fall treat of choice, and we love this seasonal twist on the classic,” Faith says. For best results, put on a cozy sweater and sip this on the front porch after playing in the fallen leaves.
